Walking into Lucero Bakery at 6307 E Gage Ave in Commerce, CA, feels like stepping into a warm, inviting corner of a vibrant community. This place is truly a local favorite, a spot where the aromas of freshly baked goods greet you right at the door. It’s got that classic Mexican bakery charm, a really pleasant atmosphere that just makes you feel good the moment you step inside.

The vibe here is everything you’d hope for from a neighborhood bakery. Think 'churros' and 'tres leches' in a cozy setting. It’s a place people pop into for a sweet treat to brighten their day or to pick up something special for a family gathering. The shelves are packed with colorful pastries, each one looking more tempting than the last. You get a genuine sense of tradition and craftsmanship with every item you see.

One of the big draws here is definitely the 'pan dulce.' They have a fantastic selection, from conchas to puerquitos, all baked fresh and tasting authentic. It’s the kind of comfort food that brings back sweet memories for many. And if you’re a fan of churros, you’re in for a treat. Their 'churros list' is a real highlight; they make them just right crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, often dusted with cinnamon sugar. They’re perfect for a quick snack or a delicious dessert.

Beyond the daily pastries, Lucero Bakery shines when it comes to custom cakes. Their 'Tres Leches Cake' is legendary. Seriously, it's incredibly moist and rich, a real crowd pleaser for any celebration. They also do amazing 'Wedding Cake' and 'Birthday Cake' creations. You can tell they put a lot of care into designing and baking these special occasion treats. People often rave about how beautiful and delicious their custom cakes turn out.

They offer other delightful options too, like a wonderfully moist 'Carrot Cake' and a decadent 'Red Velvet Cake.' If you need a drink to go with your pastry, try their 'Horchata Latte.' It’s a unique twist on a classic, offering a creamy, spiced refreshment that pairs so well with their sweet treats. Everything tastes fresh, made with care, and served with a friendly smile.

Lucero Bakery is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a sweet spot that feels like home to many in Commerce. The consistent quality and the welcoming environment keep people coming back time and again. It’s a place where you can count on finding something tasty, whether it’s for breakfast, dessert, or a special occasion.

I'm sad to say that my recent experiences here haven't been great, a stark contrast to how much I used to enjoy this place. This marks the second time a cake order has gone awry. For instance, I specifically requested a marble cake with a chocolate filling, but what I received definitely wasn't chocolate inside. Adding to the disappointment, there was an excessive amount of frosting applied around the edges, clearly used to mask the fact that the cake itself wasn't leveled, making me feel like I was paying for cream rather than the actual cake. Furthermore, I was completely surprised to find the cake was round; I certainly didn't ask for that shape and wasn't informed it would be.

My experience began with a slight issue when I informed an older staff member that a customer was touching all the pan dulce with their hands; she became quite rude and even angry, despite another patron confirming what I had observed. Fortunately, a younger lady working there was incredibly friendly, apologized for the situation, and promptly removed the pan dulce. As for the baked goods, the churros are truly excellent. While the flan didn't quite measure up to my own homemade recipe, the tres leches cake was certainly good.

It had been a while since I last visited this location, especially after their recent remodeling, and I'm so glad I came back. Their churros are absolutely phenomenal; I even made the drive all the way from West LA just for them, truly believing they're the best around. Beyond the churros, I'm always impressed by the wide selection of pastries and their delicious pan dulce. It's great that they provide comfortable seating options, both indoors and out, and you can also find a fantastic assortment of Mexican chips and beverages to complete your visit.

If you're searching for truly fresh, made-to-order churros, this establishment is absolutely the place to go. They also feature a tempting array of cakes and other baked goods, which I haven't had the pleasure of trying yet but plan to on my next visit. While it can certainly get quite busy at times, potentially leading to a bit of a wait, I can confidently say that the delicious outcome makes every moment worthwhile. Seriously, I wholeheartedly recommend this spot.
